In this blog entry, I’d like to explore some theories of what subtle energy is made of. I use the term “subtle energy” loosely to describe the so-called non-material universe associated with paranormal and spiritual phenomena, including inhabitants of the “planes” of existence, structures seen by psychics that describe the human aura, and effects such as Electronic Voice Phenomena, Instrumental Transcommunication, healing, free energy, time travel and teleportation.
Some people prefer the term “etheric” energy, which has become standardized, and I may use it interchangeably at times. However, the word “etheric” has so many connotations that it begs for disambiguation. And I think it places limits on the diversity of subtle energy phenomena, frequencies, layers and structures.
This schema is not comprehensive, but a first attempt at a taxonomy. My sources for this entry are also not comprehensive, which reinforces my perspective that this is a vast study, and an underrated and poorly funded one that deserves more attention.
For now, I merely draw on some notes from various sources collected over the years, and from the previous blog entry where I looked at a sample source (Quora). There is not the bandwidth in this blog to annotate sources, but I may add footnotes in the future if it evolves into an academic paper or book.
I intend to make another blog entry about the vast range of source materials that we can draw upon, which will result in an expanded list of subtle energy theories. The goal is to find an inclusive physics that incorporates material and non-material phenomena, a real “Theory of Everything” that does not ignore the spiritual dimension.
There is some overlap of theories in this beginners’ list below, and it is subject to change. Under each category, there can be dozens of sub-theories, which I will add later. The beginners’ list is mostly conventional science. It will get more interesting when sources from non-duality conference presenters, channelers, and ET experiencers, for example, are included.
Finally, most of my source materials consist not of theory, but on how to put theory into practice through engineering and invention. A lot of that content is about measurement, detectors of subtle energy, and experimental evidence. I give only a few examples of those on this list.
With that in mind, here is a schema:
Consciousness
These theories assert either that consciousness is the prime cause of subtle energy phenomena and life forms or is in the mix of causes. If consciousness and God are synonymous, as asserted in some philosophies and religions, then one could substitute God for consciousness.
Brain
The brain is not synonymous with consciousness, but understanding it is important in classifying the perception of imaginal (non-material) phenomena. An example of how the brain, consciousness and the non-material universe intersect can be found in recent books by Tom Butler, inspired by his expertise in spiritualism and instrumental transcommunication.
Sacred Geometry
If math is the foundation of the universe, and geometry its handmaiden, then geometry is the foundation of existence, and serves as the template for both material and non-material existence. Examples are holonomic structures in quantum consciousness, the primary forms of Nassim Haramein, etc.
Morphogenetic Fields
This is basically resonance theory applied to form. Non-material form and energy are resonance phenomena.
Scalar Waves
Much has been made of the primacy of scalar waves as a base principle of an inclusive physics. I include, in this category: torsion fields, non-hertzian frequencies, longitudinal waves, Tesla oscillations, vortexian mechanics, caduceus coils and mobius strips.
Quantum Theory
Quantum mysticism is at an all time high, and for good reason. Quantum theory and its application in quantum mechanics explain a lot in physics, and fit many observations in subtle-energy physics as well, including non-locality. In this category, I include the classic “ether” as well as its modern counterpart, The Dirac Sea.
Relativity
The theory of relativity has survived the test of time. With such stability, could it have relevance to an inclusive physics? Inhabitants of non-material realms report that time is faster, slower or non-existent. Relativity is one of the few theories that addresses time anomalies directly.
String Theory
Observers of subtle planes state that we live in a multi-dimensional universe. String theories postulate multiple dimensions (10, 11 or 26, depending on the theory). Could there be something to this correspondence?
Parallel Universes
Do non-material life-forms live in parallel universe, that somehow cross over into the material universe under special conditions? There are many variations of the multi-universe concept.
Possible States Theory
Shelley Thomson’s theory – similar to parallel universe theory. The idea is that everything in time-space and beyond is co-present. What we perceive is a function of a probability curve. Certain possible states become more probable depending on attention and other factors. Might this explain the nature of spiritual phenomena?
TTR Theory
This is an example of a hybrid theory, where multi-dimensionality, non-locality and “soul” particles are used in its construction.
Other Physics Candidates
Some thinkers assert that the foundation of an inclusive physics consists, at its base, of: antimatter, neutrinos, dark matter, dark energy, or soft electrons.
Orgonomics and Rife Lights
Wilhelm Reich discovered a form of energy that is hard to classify as EMF, or in any known frequency, which had important applications in his healing research. Could it be a key to our understanding of the non-material world? Royal Rife’s microscopes used advanced optics and specific light frequencies to visualize the sub-microscopic world. He discovered, among other things, that tiny life forms within cells flash in and out of existence.
Simulation Theory
In this theory, there is a “higher” or “base” reality, from which “programmers” create virtual worlds. We exist in one of those worlds. Could subtle energy be just another virtual world, or even the base reality from which all worlds emanate?
Stochastic Resonance
I end this list with one of the leading theories of how ITC works. It is both a technique and a theory. “Spirit” is said to find its most efficient pathway to communication with the material world through psychokinetic influence on noise or chaos. Once we understand why, a top-level theory of the universe might emerge.
